Yxobol Pgrk - 'Reincarnation', 13.5.05 - 8.6.05 Israeli Art, Yemin Moshe, Jerusalem
When I first saw Tzivia's works of paper rollings, I stood astounded. The unique technique which she has developed, enables her to create relief pictures, a colorful mosaic formation, surprising in its abundance in color, with striking similarity to the Byzantine mosaic artists – an entire picture of particles, rich with shades of color. In Tzivia's works, the particles are comprised of colorful pieces of paper that have been rolled and pasted closely together on top of a plain surface or relief, which as a whole make up a complete relief picture. Tzivia's works are reminiscent of the impressionist paintings, spectacular in color, in a technique of strokes of color and lumination effects with landscape as well as with objects. The colorful pieces of rolled paper blend in an unanticipated pointillism, which traps the light in three dimensions and enhances its vibrancy. Not withstanding, Tzivia's works are contemporary and anchored in present-day art, especially in view of the recurring use of 'simple' materials such as magazine and newspaper pages. The pleasant scenes depicted in Ttivia's pictures are reminiscent of impressionist art, however the impressionist artists aimed to portray scenes as they are perceived in a particular moment of light, whereas Tzivia succeeds to bestow an appearance that surpasses time. There is much serenity and peacefulness in her green and blue landscape; Tzivia's characters reflect a quiet and even mystical vitality, that seems to be evoked from the artist's rich spiritual world. About The Technique I have been working since 1988 in a project related to the Jerusalem Purim carnival. In that context I experimented recycling different materials. I tried to use magazine and newspaper in many different ways, one of them, cutting and rolling the papers was unique and different. I had just discovered a new way! I immediately introduced this technique in my art work, but, it took many more years till it matured to this stage. Then it became immensely exciting, it included all i wanted. It is made from simple everyday stuff - the newspaper that everyone throws away- it carries everybody's life, from the lowest to the highest, it includes all. I would just take it, choose and cut to pieces roll them and glue them. It can be called recycling. In another level i would take all this lives and create a new life. It can be called reincarnations. These works are made from curled paper pieces mounted on cardboard. Each one being - one. So one. One. One. Point. Point. Point . It can be called pointillism. But mainly and most of all they are my daily meditation and at that point the daily becomes magical. It becomes a work of art. Yxobol Pgrk Yxobol Pgrk's Gallery... | |
